José Luis Sola

Born in Pamplona.

He began his musical studies in the Escolanía Niños Cantores de Navarra, under the direction of Father Goicoechea and studied imposition and repertoire with the tenor Ricardo Visus. In 2002 he won an extraordinary scholarship from the Government of Navarra, a scholarship at the Julián Gayarre International Singing Competition and also obtained the Second Prize for Men, a special prize from the critics and a scholarship for the best Spanish performer at the International Singing Competition in Bilbao.

He continues his training in technique and repertoire with the famous Raúl Giménez and Nicolai Gedda.

He then began a promising and successful artistic career, performing in the leading roles of Don Pasquale in Cesena, Pamplona and Málaga; Lucia de Lammermoor and Faust in Barcelona; Rita and L’Arbore di Diana at the Teatro Real in Madrid;  Lucrezia Borgia, La Traviata, Manon and Dialogues des Carmélites in Oviedo and Bilbao; Don Giovanni at the Teatro Colón in Guatemala, Mahón, Seville and Pamplona; Die Zauberflöte in Bilbao, Málaga and Oviedo; Doña Francisquita at the Arriaga Theater in Bilbao; Falstaff at the National Theater of Costa Rica and Bilbao; Les Pêcheurs de Perles in Pamplona; Cyrano de Di Chiera at the Michigan Opera; Rigoletto and Faust in Warsaw, Irun and Costa Rica; La Fille du Régiment in Jerez, L’Italiana in Algeri in Jerez, Córdoba and Costa Rica; Il Concilio dei Pianeti with Claudio Scimone and I Solisti Veneti in Padua; Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Murcia, premiere of the opera La página en blanco by Pilar Jurado at the Teatro Real; Il Turco in Italia in Wildbad, Germany; La Sonnambula in Pamplona; El Relámpago at the Teatro de la Zarzuela; Le diable à Séville and L’indovina at the Palau de la Música in Valencia; Krol Roger in Bilbao and Manaus; El Rapto en el Serrallo in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; El Caserío at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao and the Teatros del Canal in Madrid; premiere and recording of Sorozábal‘s opera Juan José at the Auditorio Kursaal in San Sebastián and Auditorio Nacional in Madrid; Don Pasquale in Oviedo; Viva Madrid at the Teatros del Canal in Madrid; L’equivoco stravagante in Bilbao; The Blue Domino in Pamplona; The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein at the Teatro de la Zarzuela; The Judge, with José Carreras in Vienna, Bilbao, Erl (Tyrol), The Pearl Fishers in Dubai; I Capuleti e i Montecchi in Pamplona and Oviedo; Don Giovanni in Manacor and Bilbao; La Traviata in Jerez, Barcelona, San Sebastián, Zaragoza and Madrid, Semiramide in Bilbao, Fuenteovejuna in Oviedo, Der Kaiser von Atlantis in Seville, Orfeo y Euridice in Jerez and Doña Francisquita, El caserío and Don Gil de Alcalá at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, El Cantor de México in Lausanne, Teatro de la Zarzuela and Les Arts de Valencia, as well as various concerts and recitals.

He also participates as soloist in different works of the symphonic-choral repertoire such as Gounod‘s St. Cecilia Mass, Gloria by E. Arrieta, Rossini‘s Petite Messe Solennelle and Stabat Mater, Mozart‘s Requiem and Coronation Mass, Mass in C major and Mass in C minor.   Stabat Mater by Haydn and Dvorak, 9th Symphony and Mass a C major by Beethoven, Liebeslieder Walzer by Brahms and Gloria Mass by Puccini, Miserere by Eslava in Seville and Pamplona, Requiem by Verdi, Magnificat by Bach, Messiah by Handel, The Seven Words of Christ on the Cross by Dubois in Pamplona and the Seven Words of Christ on the Cross by C. Franck and Pulcinella by I. Franck. Stravinski in Granada, offering numerous concerts in Spain and the United States.
